Aloha Friday #13

Each Friday, Kailani, over at http://www.islandlife808.com/ hosts a wonderful meme called Aloha Friday. It's the end of the week, a chance to relax and get ready for the weekend. To celebrate Aloha Friday, you ask a question and answer others' questions.

My question for this week:

Are your kids allowed to drink soda? If you don't have kids, or if they're too young to drink soda, did your parents allow you to drink soda?

We didn't really have soda at home while I was growing up as neither of my parents drank it. I've always allowed my kids to drink it, but I don't always buy it.

We don't allow our kids to drink anything with caffeine. Including soda that has it. Other soda is not forbidden and we occasionally buy it. But rarely. We just aren't big soda drinkers.

As a kid, I was allowed to drink soft drinks pretty much whenever I wanted. However, I wasn't a big fan of them, and only had them occasionally.

We have four kids. They are allowed to have one soft drink per day. I know they all have caffeine and sugar in them, but, we do try to steer them away from the ones that seem to have the most (Mt. Dew, Vault, etc.) And, we never allow them to drink diet soft drinks.

Happy Friday.

My parents let me drink soda, but it wasn't (isn't) my favorite.

We never have soda at home because my husband does not like carbonation and I can live without it. Both of our boys (almost 6 and just 2) have tried it and agree with DH and make quite a face when they had sips.

Our rule: One a day, other than that it's water or milk!

We didn't really have soda until I was a teen & then we could drink whatever.

Hubby & I are very strict on soda since our son has braces & not much enamel on his teeth due to asthma medication when he was an infant. Daughter doesn't really care for soda although she will drink an occasional root beer.

My kids were allowed to have soda once in a while but it wasn't a lot.

We were allowed to have it as kids on weekends.

My kids are one and two, so they haven't touched it. Not sure how old we were when we were allowed to drink it, but it was a special treat for holidays and restaurants until at least junior high.

My kids have both tried it, but prefer water to anything else. I'm pretty lucky!

My son hates soda and my daughter is a Dew addict, like most teens. At least she'll drink diet.

Happy Friday!

We never had soda in the house growing up. We were children of the '70's so it was Kool-Aid all the way! As we got older (teenage years) if we bought it with our own money, then we'd have soda!

My kids are 3 and 1 1/2 and no they don't drink soda; I hope to keep that The House Rule. (And yet, I drink Diet Coke now so I'd better change my ways or else.........)

I guess I was allowed to drink soda...but I don't like it so it was never really an issue.

Growing up we didn't have soda in the house but a soda machine up the street so if we wanted one we had to walk to get it and buy it with our own money.
Today we don't buy soda for the house. I don't let my kids have it especially anything with caffeine. They don't ask for it because they don't know what they are missing.

My daughter isn't even 2 yet so no soda for her. I rarely drink soda and won't bring it into the house so I don't see a lot of soda drinking in her future. Not that we will forbid it, just that it will be more of a special treat.

My parents allowed us to drink soda, but I've always been more of an iced tea drinker then a soda drinker.

My kids were only allowed on very special occasions if we were out. They usually chose something that was not pop. They are now teens and they choose not to. We never, ever buy pop.

I allow the kids to drink soda occasionally, but we never have it in our house. I grew up drinking soda all the time.

No, my kids are not allowed to drink soda or ice teas. Since they were young, we would say, "Soda, yuck!" Now they wouldn't drink it even if it was offered to them. :-)

I don't promote it, but my kids find ways to get it at friends, etc. I mainly have water, milk at home. Aloha!

No my kids are not allowed to drink soda because they are too young, but as they get older I would like for them to choose not to drink it either.

I didn't have soda as a child and still don't like it and wont really drink it...maybe a sprite once a month.

I don't allow lil' D to drink soda. Around 2 1/2 he was curious what I was drinking through the straw. He tried the cola and hated it. He hasn't liked it since. His grandmother attempted Ginger Ale with him last year and he hated that as well. I think it is the bubbles. Aloha and take care.

My son is a little too young (thankfully!) to even think about soda. But the hubs and I have agreed that we wont let him drink any - for as along as we can! LOL!

The only kind of pop I occassionally let my oldest son drink is orange pop. Other than that I am really trying to avoid pop.

I always had it in the house growing up so I drank it all the time. As an adult it is the one thing that over the years I have not been able to quit. I don't want my kids to become addicted to it like I am. I have to drink coke everyday!

Our girls don't have soft drinks at home, but we do occasionally allow them to order one when we go out to eat, which is usually once a week. I personally don't drink them much, either, but we do keep 2liters of diet soda in the refrigerator for my husband.

Once in awhile we'll give our 3 year old daughter some pop, like if we go to a baseball game. But hose times are very few and far between. Now, I know her grandparents give it to her when she's over, and they won't listen to me when I tell them I'd rather her not drink it. I just hope that when they ignore me, they're not giving her a lot. When me and my brothers where growing up we got pop on Sundays, and when we had pizza (which was not often), and that's it. And we were only allowed one cup too.

If I had kids, I'm sure they would drink it eventually. Just not very much. And I don't remember when I started drinking it. Hmmm...
