Aloha Friday #16

Each Friday, Kailani, over at http://www.islandlife808.com/ hosts a wonderful meme called Aloha Friday. It's the end of the week, a chance to relax and get ready for the weekend. To celebrate Aloha Friday, you ask a question and answer others' questions.

My question for this week:

If you have children, do you post their photos on your blog? If you're not yet a parent, do you think there is any harm in putting children's photo on a personal blog?

I have always put photos up. I've always been of the belief that if someone meant harm, they would find us. I know others don't agree. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Audrey :)

I put pictures of my kids up. That is a huge point of the blog so that grandparents can see them on the blog.

I think that their could be a lot of harm in it. Posting anything on the web has the possibility of whatever you post being exploited.

However, I think that the possibility is slim (especially since I am not using my kids' real names). So I've gone with the statistical probability that the chance the pictures could be misused is very small and the benefit to having grandparents see them is very high. And I've posted pictures!

It's a good question though. One that parents should ask on a regular basis.

I put photos up. Sure people could do something, but that is always a possibility. With our kids we opted to use initials rather than their names.

I only put photos of my daughter that don't show her face. I'm still debating on whether it's ok to "show her off" in blog land or not.

I put pictures up, some people might think I'm crazy, but whatever. I've recently started watermarking my pictures, but they're up there!

I post pictures occasionally. And I don't use their real names.

Right or wrong? I imagine that would be everyone's individual decision.

Aloha!

Yes, I post picof my kids all the time. I don't use their names on the blog, but I do use my real name, so it probably wouldn't be hard to find them, but that's what the shotgun is for.

I put pictures of my baby up. I call him by a nickname, although in my post announcing his birth I did state his first and middle names. My friends and family are the main readers, and I know they enjoy seeing pictures almost as much as I enjoy showing off. There certainly can be harm, but like Heatherlyn, the possibility is slim enough that I am willing to risk it. I'm careful about the types of pictures I post to help minimize the chance of misuse.

Besides, my baby is so cute that I really can't resist letting everyone see him!

Yep, I post photos of my blog but never anything like a naked baby photo. Those photos always creep me out since it is so easy to "lift" photos from anything on the internet.

I do post their photos but not their real names, what town we live in, or their school's name.

You bet. My kids are with me all the time though. I try to get them to leave me alone but they just won't. rofl....

I do post pictures but we all use nick names in my blog. So if someone were to ever approach my kids they would have no clue because we don't use those nick names.

Now my family would disagree and that is why they do not know about my blog. I think it is sad I can't share it with them but I don't want the grief.

I use photos of my niece in my blog. I think it can be bad, but I hope nobody is using our blogs in a bad way.

I post photos. My daughter post photos and her friends post photo. In today's cyberspace it is the norm. I do not think the percentage is high of exploiting as media would like one to believe. I tell my kids just be careful what you post.

i don't have kids yet.. but right now i believe that if i would have one i would probably only share the baby stage in pictures.. the rest I'd keep it out cause i wouldn't want a freak-o kidnapping my kid from kindergarten or whatevah'.. so yeah just baby stage pics probably

Aloha Friday!

I rarely post pictures of my children on my blog. The internet is not safe, and why help those who are creepy. My boys are older teens and so now I will occasionally post pictures of them when they were very little.
I do like seeing pictures of bloggy friends children. I just cannot and will not do it.

I put up pictures of my kids. I guess I really haven't thought about the harm of it. But with people out there you never know.

I do put photos up but they're usually profile shots.

I do post pictures of my son, but rarely. My husband and I have talked about it and plan to start using watermarks so that no one can steal them.

I do post photos. They are watermarked and I put type on them as well.

I post pics of my children....I do wonder about the danger of it...I agree with previous comments that the chance of harm is slim!

well if I didn't post pics of my kiddo there probably would never be pictures

I post pictures of my kids. But I have been thinking about deleting my blog. In the beginning I didn't really think about it and I barely had any visitors. If I were to start over I'd probably not post pictures of them.

I do use photos of our family, and I use aliases. I also don't say where we live. Family and friends read my blog regularly, so I want them to see what's going on daily, or something special. Thanks for your comment. We had the game Clue too. We also watched the movie any time it was on tv. One of my favs. Aloha and take care.

I do, but sometimes I wonder. But then again, my blog would probably be boring w/o pics of them. I don't use their names though, or anyone else's for that matter, just mine.

I leave it up to the individual parent. Some people only blog for family and such, so, why not? I personally don't - call me paranoid - but, sometimes it's hard when my maternal pride kicks in! LOL!

I do post pictures of my girls. I guess to me, I just do it and hope there are not any sick people viewing it. I have thought about it on many occasions. Ihave a lot of family that comes to my blog to see pics of my girls that live far away. I have thought about watermarking my pictures, I just may start doing that.

I believe if harm is meant to be done, it will happen. I cannot let that stop me from sharing my life how I feel comfortable.
I will not post certain photographs of my children though, but otherwise I feel alright in sharing with friends and family.

Of all the millions of photos shared on the web by people, it is very slim that mine would be exploited, but I understand the possiblity.

So I think on it, but I'm alright with sharing.

It wouldn't bother me to put photos up. I don't know how someone could find you from a photo.

I do post pics of my kids. I have heard of people using the pics for other purposes, but I don't want to hinder my fun just in case of the few weirdos out there. I honestly worry a little about it but not enough to change what I do because I think that the possibility is pretty slim.

Jenni said...

I put pictures up! No worries!

I do put photos up but I only use our first names (no last names or where we live exactly).

I do put pictures of my kids on my blog. However, I try and select them as small images, so it makes them harder to copy.

♥ Happy Friday! ♥

I post pictures up. I have thought about it, but at the same time, I think that most people are not creeps. I don't know...it's hard to decide either way! Although most people don't know where we live. Just the state that we live in.
