Although I've been seeing it done for years now, I'm still constantly amazed when strangers go up to a pregnant woman and touch her belly. I personally have never done this. However both times when I was pregnant it was done to me. It's a very awkward situation to have a total stranger rush up to me to touch me.
For those of you that have had children, did you mind being touched? If you did, what did you say to those who were bold enough to start touching you?

I have patted many tummies, but never a stranger's. I had this happen to me, but it was always the wonder of pregnancy that drove them to it. It never bothered me when I looked at the look in their eyes as they did it. Usually wistful happiness mixed with memories.
Hi. Thanks for stopping by my blog today.
:-)
I had many a person pat my belly and most times it did not bother me. When it seemed driven sincerely out of the miracle of life, I felt okay. I, however, have never touched without asking.
This brings up a memory of mine when my 1st baby was only 3 weeks old (and he was 5 wks early)I brought him to the grocery store and the lady behind the deli who was cutting up steaks came out and touched him on the face!!!! I was in such shock to say anything and so dumbfounded I guess! I just think it is inappropriate unless you are given the ok.
I hated when people thought they could do that. I'm not public property!
Not at all I felt like they were saying hello and hope all is well however this was a great question...

I agree that it is very awkward.
Although, I'm not vocal enough to come out and say Don't touch my belly! However, I have turned, smiled and acted as if I was in a hurry...then took off. lol
What I hate even more is when strangers are touching my new baby! Especially when it is cold/flu season! Yikes!
Never been pregnant however when I do I dont think Ill mind it unless I am already in a bad mood.
I don't like to be touched whether I'm pregnant or not. But I'd tolerate it.
