Do Your Kids Cook?

Both of my girls know how to cook. They both know how to bake. They both help with dinners. Sometimes one of them will cook a whole meal.

What about your kids? Do they know how to cook? Do they like to cook? Do they help out with the cooking?

Audrey :)

My oldest two kids can cook basic simple things like eggs and raman noodles. My younger kids have shown some interest in cooking and I've been showing them how to do some things in the kitchen. They would all like to.

Ironically, I did not cook much of anything until jr. high and was resistent to learning how to do anything in the kitchen during high school (I thought it was sexist that my Mom wanted to show me how to cook and not my brothers. I'm sure I was a delightful teenager (not really).) Anyway. I've always been able to follow a recipe though. And I cook pretty much every day now. So I'm not concerned about them being able to cook. But my husband thinks they should be learning so that they can start cooking too, so I guess we'll be going in that direction! :)

My 4 year old is in a "do everything myself" phase and thinks he can make his own meals. We're letting him help out, but the knives and hot surfaces are off limits (much to his dismay...)

Hi there,
Thanks for your nice comments. I know a smile is always nice.
My daughter is grown and married.
She is a great cook and has us over for dinner on most Sundays.
I guess my grandma, mom and I all rubbed off on her.
Have a nice night! I'm not far from you, I'm in Thousand Oaks.

My oldest is 11 and she cooked up the ground beef to go on the nachos tonight...with lots of supervision. She loved it!

My mom had us cooking whole meals starting at 10 years old. By the time I left the house, we each cooked one day and the seventh day was left overs or dinner out. My oldest is too active in high school sports to be around to cook a meal, but he's interested. And so am I.

My ADHD son would forget what step he was on, that he was cooking or that there was something in the oven. I'm afraid. ;-}
